Referrals

Having worked with hundreds of couples in therapy, we also know that sometimes you can't wait for us develop new resources - you need help or advice now.

    Couple Therapy Resources

  • Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy website. If you're located in Los Angeles, Seattle, or Charlottesville, VA, there are therapists available who have been supervised and/or trained by Dr. Christensen in IBCT. Click on the "Therapists" tab to see the full list.
  • Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) referral website. ABCT is one of the premier research-based organizations for psychotherapy. In searching for a psychologist, be sure to click "Marital Therapy" under SPECIALITIES, not just "couples" under type served. Doing so will likely provide you with psychologists who have more experience in marital and couple therapy.
  • American Psychological Association's (APA) referral website. The APA is the national organization for doctoral-level psychologists. At this website, you will be able to conduct a search for a psychologist in your area. Additionally, they provide an 800 number if you'd rather talk to an individual in person to help you find a therapist.
  • American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) referral website. AAMFT is the national association of masters-level marriage and family therapists. Although AAMFT members are typically not psychologists, they often have a lot of experience working with couples.
